Adding an Air Purifier to you Home Can Improve your Health

03/2024

Air pollution has become the world’s single biggest environmental health risk, linked to around 7 million deaths in 2012 according to a recent World Health Organization (WHO) report. The new data further reveals a stronger link between, indoor and outdoor air pollution exposure and cardiovascular diseases, such as strokes and ischemic heart disease, as well as between air pollution and cancer. The role of air pollution in the development of respiratory diseases,

When Should I Sell My Bitcoin? Use The Rake Method

01/2024

Bitcoin made me rich. But consider the guy who sold the two pizzas to Laszlo Hanyecz for 10,000 BTC (~$0.0025/BTC). If the seller waited just 4 years a $25 investment would have turned into $10 million — a nice 500,000 x reward. But what if he would have excitedly sold it all (he did) when the price first doubled? Then instead of millions, he would have netted $25. So, how do we know when to sell our Bitcoin?

The Unreasonable Effectiveness of VLC

07/2022

The enshitification of software is inevitable as its popularity rises founders will eventually need to bring in outside help and either sell or go public, either is enough to kill a good company. The orange traffic cone is different, defiant yet innocent, unassuming yet indomitable. The first time you downloaded VLC maybe you were like me, fifteen, just heard of this show called South Park making the rounds on AOL. Real Player sucked, so you Asked Jeeves, whats a good media player?

Advanced Regression Techniques to Predict Home Prices With Python

05/2022

It can take real estate agents a lifetime of experience to get a feel for what homes will sell and for how much. A lot of the time a less experienced seller or buyer may miss something obvious to an old pro. With this exercise I will try and tease out from 79 explanatory variables that describe every aspect of residential home, which few are the most important to focus on in predicting a final sale price of a home.

Why a Dollar Crash is Coming

02/2022

The era of the U.S. dollar’s “exorbitant privilege” as the world’s primary reserve currency is coming to an end. Then French Finance Minister Valery Giscard d’Estaing coined that phrase in the 1960s largely out of frustration, bemoaning a U.S. that drew freely on the rest of the world to support its over-extended standard of living. For almost 60 years, the world complained but did nothing about it. Those days are over.

Already stressed by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, U.S. living standards are about to be squeezed as never before. At the same time, the world is having serious doubts about the once widely accepted presumption of American exceptionalism.

Can Social Media Predict Asset Price Movement?

04/2022

It certainly seems that online forums can have a certain premonition about price movements. As chatter of a given asset increases, often so does the price. This is the hunch I wanted to validates and if correct, profit from with this project. I hope some parts of if not the whole project will be useful to others and it is hosted on GitHub and PythonAnywhere. Please get in touch with any questions or advice. Using a large amount of data scraped hourly from Reddit along with historic price data a model is built to try and predict positive or negative future price movements.

No Real Humans Were Harmed in the Collapse of FTX

12/2022

In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, the allure of the new and the promise of the revolutionary often blur the lines between genuine innovation and deceptive practices. One such deceptive practice, as old as commerce itself, is the “snake oil” scam. This scam thrives on the public’s naive belief in new technologies, exploiting their lack of understanding and their hope for a better future. In 2023, this age-old scam has found a new playground: the cryptocurrency industry.

How to (Actually) Use Reddit to Get More Views

03/2022

I’m not proud of the fact that for the last 10 years I’ve used Frindster, MySpace, then Digg, Facebook, moved to Reddit and now Hacker News on a daily basis. Choosing to get my dopamine fix by watching imaginary internet points increase in fits and starts rather than the typical human-to-human way. Recently I was inspired by posts like these that claim to help you use social media sites like Reddit to increase your traffic or get more users but they are mostly bunk or common sense. Now I may be giving away the secret sauce here but I’ve benefited enough from the following tricks and am ready to move on and share what I’ve learned.

New York’s Open Restaurants are a Free-for-All

07/2022

It takes seven months for a restaurant to get approved for street seating in New York City and there are a lot of regulations they must follow but it still feels like an anything goes free-for-all of restaurateurs taking back the streets in the best way possible. The speed at which New York turned its car congested streets into quaint outdoor cafes is astounding and nearly 100 streets in the city now allow cafes and restaurants to spill their seating out past the sidewalk and into the streets, in some cases closing the roads down to vehicles all together. Here a a few of my favorites, please get in touch with pictures of your own and I’ll be happy to add them to the collection. Thanks, and happy dining!

ShinyCoin - A Cryptocurrency Denomination Calculator in R

05/2024

We all want to make more money but with so many currencies available someone can be “making money” in one currency while “losing money” if denominated in another. The global economy is confusing and adding hundreds of new “alternative digital currencies” into the mix has not helped.

Worse than not making money is actually losing money with Bitcoin. Buying at the top and selling low is the fate of many who do not have a strategy or understanding of their actions, but that’s not for us.

A Futuristic Endgame for Bitcoin

The role of air pollution in the development of respiratory diseases, including acute respiratory infections and chronic pulmonary diseases, is well known. While both indoor and outdoor pollution affect health, recent statistics on the impact of household indoor pollutants is alarming.
